Board of Directors

The ASH RC is currently accepting nominations for its Board of Directors on a rolling basis for the 2024 term. Those interested should submit a brief (100 words or less) statement of interest and CV/resume. Both ASH members and non-members are eligible. Show your commitment to advancing critical research and working to accelerate positive change for people living with hematologic conditions. Background

The ASH RC is a non-profit organization established by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in 2018 to improve the lives of people affected by blood diseases by fostering collaborative partnerships to accelerate research in hematology. The ASH RC is currently focused on two disease areas: sickle cell disease and multiple myeloma.

The ASH RC has two foundational components:

The Data Hub, a technology platform that facilitates the exchange of information by aggregating research-grade real-world data to generate real-world evidence on hematologic diseases.
The Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Clinical Trials Network, a network of subject matter experts that proposes and executes investigator-initiated research, conducts industry-sponsored trials, and advises on clinical trial design to optimize feasibility.

The ASH RC supports the overall mission of ASH and is a supporting organization to the Society.

The ASH RC Board of Directors

The Board is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction, assuring resources are aligned to accomplish strategic goals, measuring/overseeing that goals are met, and maintaining alignment with ASH.

Board members will be vetted and selected by a working group of the ASH Executive Committee and asked to serve at least one term (each term is three years). As the Board launches in 2024, these terms will be staggered. Both ASH members and non-members are eligible to nominate or be nominated to the ASH RC Board with terms starting in 2024.

Board Member Competencies

The ASH RC seeks board members from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds, industries, and areas of expertise. The board seeks to be a holistic governing body whose diversity of experience can assist the organization as it plans for a sustainable future. The ASH RC is seeking interested candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Data/Clinical Informatics

E.g., experience in data governance, healthcare databases, data interoperability, real-world evidence, and/or artificial intelligence.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

E.g., a current or former leader in DEI at a large organization and/or academic research in the field.

Entrepreneurialism

E.g., a current or former member of a founding leadership team, experience securing financing for a new venture, etc.

Finance

E.g., experience with strategic finance, aligning financial strategy to operational strategy, budgeting, fiscal accountability, fiscal and operational policy, etc.

Health Systems

E.g., experience in a senior leadership position in at least one major health system, making business decisions for a health entity related to strategy, etc.

Industry

E.g., experience in overseeing the therapeutic development process (knowledge of hematological medicine a plus).

Three Year Business Plan

The ASH RC Board will provide strategic and advisory support to the organization as it focuses on the following objectives of its current three-year business plan:

Establishing proof-of-concept of its Data Hub program through data acquisition, data quality, and data use.
Evolving the Clinical Trials Network strategy to accelerate SCD research in a meaningful way.
Developing a more robust SCD community engagement program.
Building strategic partnerships that maximize growth opportunities.
Achieving long-term financial sustainability.
