Committee Mandate

The ASH Research Collaborative® Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) is a mission-driven research effort using a collaborative network of clinical trial research sites, a comprehensive patient engagement approach, and optimized clinical trial operations to focus on advancing development of new and more effective therapeutics for individuals with sickle cell disease.

The SCD CTN Oversight Committee, which reports to the ASH Research Collaborative Executive Committee, is charged with:

  • reviewing policies and procedures of the ASH SCD CTN;
  • developing an integrated governance structure of committees, subcommittees, and councils;
  • overseeing patient engagement;
  • reviewing annual evaluations and ASH SCD CTN site evaluation report;
  • helping identify and recruit sites;
  • interfacing with industry and federal agencies to promote the ASH SCD CTN; and
  • completing annual site performance reviews.

Members of the SCD CTN Oversight Committee are selected based on their specialized expertise within their respective fields and leadership which would substantially inform and benefit the ASH SCD CTN efforts. The core group consists of ASH members; non-ASH members are consulted for specific discussions involving their area(s) of subject-matter expertise. The membership of the oversight committee includes four members, and two ASH Research Collaborative Executive Committee members as well as the Chairs of the Patient Engagement and Education Subcommittee, the Scientific Review Subcommittee, and the Site Selection Subcommittee as liaison members. The current NHLBI CSCI Executive Director also serves as a liaison member.

The SCD CTN Oversight Committee convenes as necessary via conference call and up to three meetings per year.
