The American Society of Hematology (ASH) has expanded its awards and mentorship programs to address the threats to funding for hematology research and to protect the pipeline of new hematologists entering the field. With an investment of more than $12 million, ASH aims to address the significant changes to federal research grants, training opportunities, and federal programs put in place by the new Administration.

Among these investments, the ASH RC SCD Data Hub Award is an opportunity designed to accelerate the development of the next generation of SCD researchers by fostering dynamic partnerships between early-career investigators and advanced-career SCD researchers. Under this award, advanced career SCD researchers will partner and serve as dedicated mentors, guiding early career investigators through every stage of project development, from concept to study completion.

Proposals will be evaluated based on their ability to:

  • Develop and implement exploratory research utilizing data from the ASH RC Data Hub, with the goal of generating impactful findings that address significant gaps in sickle cell disease (SCD) care.
  • Prepare and submit a manuscript reporting the study results to a peer-reviewed journal.

While not required, preference will be given to proposals that intend to leverage preliminary data from this award to inform and develop a subsequent large-scale, multicenter research study for submission to extramural funding sources.
